With over 200,000 subscribers and over 90 million views across his channel, Laith is a big name in the world of strategy gaming on YouTube. Possibly best known for playing Paradox Interactive franchises such as Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings and Hearts of Iron, Laith has built a fanbase on the back of his undeniable skill at the games combined with the fact that his videos are designed to be comedic and light-hearted enough to be enjoyed even by those who aren't hardcore strategy enthusiasts. When we first spoke with Laith, we quickly discovered the main issue that he was facing with his channel's branding. Originally he had created the channel under the name 'TheSocialStreamers' along with a couple of friends, however they were no longer involved in the content and Laith had been running the channel solo for some time. However, the branding of the channel hadn't changed, and was therefore not at all reflective of the channel's current content.

We met with Laith to try and get a really strong understanding of his content and his audience, looking for the values that Laith felt encapsulated the channel. We narrowed it down to three key pillars that the branding would be built on: Comedy, Suffering and Community. Comedy and Suffering were two sides of the same coin when it came to Laith's content, as despite his skill at the games he plays there are still times when things go horribly wrong, and this is arguably when his videos are at their best. These moments of suffering would almost always lead to the best comedic moments of his videos, and therefore the audience would love to see things go wrong. We worked out that the best way to reflect these things would be by having a sense of duality in the branding, a division between the highs and lows of his gameplay. For the community aspect of the branding we decided to make Laith, rather than the games that he plays, the focus of the banner image, and give the audience some snapshots of Laith at particularly impactful moments of gameplay. As well as this we have designed an end screen that acknowledges his Patreon supporters, something that Laith had already been doing with his previous branding.

The

Outcome

"I'm not a design guy, never have been. Despite this, Jack was able to coax out exactly what I was looking for in my branding. He was incredibly patient with me yet stormed ahead when it was time for him to get cracking and far exceeded my expectations when it came to both quality and timeframe. I've been left with an end result I couldn't have been happier with and couldn't have dreamed of coming up with without his professional skills and manner. I can't thank him and Pixsel8 enough for what they've done for my brand - it's bang-on what I was looking for and the entire process is one that I'd happily go through again. A change in branding is something I've been dreading and put off for a long period of time but I'm kicking myself that I didn't get in touch sooner and save myself a lot of hassle! Thanks a lot for all the effort!"
